World Hepatitis Day celebrations held at Shopian

Comprehensive efforts to combat Hepatitis highlighted at Awareness Camp

Shopian : The Department of Health Shopian in association with Nursing Institutions on Saturday organized a significant day- long event at the Mini Secretariat Shopian to celebrate ‘World Hepatitis Day’.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from para-medical students of SBGM Nursing college Arhama, Ancillary Nursing Medical Training (ANMT) School, Shopian, staff of District Hepatitis Centre Shopian, Asha workers and various officials from the health department and other stakeholders.
Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Shopian, Dr. Nasir Ahmad Lone presided over the function. Chief Medical Officer Shopian, District Immunization Officer/ BMO Shopian were also present on the occasion.
The Block Medical Officer (BMO), Shopian, District Immunization Officer (DIO) provided comprehensive details about Hepatitis, its prevention, and guidelines for the community and presented statistical data on the prevalence of the disease in the district.
In his speech, the BMO highlighted the numerous steps being taken by the Health Department to combat Hepatitis through the National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme of NHM. The initiative is part of a concerted effort to raise awareness, ensure widespread vaccination and provide effective treatment to those affected, he said.
In line with the government’s goal to eliminate Hepatitis by 2030, ADDC emphasized the importance of early detection, treatment and prevention. The event serves as a platform to educate the public on the crucial steps needed to combat the disease effectively, he said.
Staff, students and other participants also organised a Rally and held banners to raise awareness about the disease.
A screening camp was also held at District Hospital Shopian, where samples were collected from the general public to facilitate early detection and treatment of hepatitis.
This event underscores the collective commitment of the health department and the community to eradicate hepatitis and improve public health standards.
