Series of Self-Defense Training Sessions under BBBP held across various Schools & Colleges in Srinagar

Srinagar : The Department of Social Welfare, SANKALP- Hub For Empowerment of Women- Mission Shakti Srinagar organized series of self-defense training sessions from 3rd June to 27th July, 2024 in various educational institutions across district Srinagar under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), for empowering women in their day to day life and equipping them with self- defense techniques.
The events were organized in collaboration with the Department of Education and J&K Sports council.
Through self-defense training, the girls are taught to become psychologically, intellectually and physically strong enough to protect themselves in times of distress.
Self-defence training techniques instills self confidence amongst girls and helps to promote girls’ education particularly their transition to secondary and higher secondary level and to reduce the dropout rate in schools. The girls are trained to use everyday articles such as, key chain, dupatta, stole, mufflers, bags, pen/ pencil, notebook etc as tools of opportunities/ improvised self-defense tools to their advantage.
The Self defense training programmes were organized in various educational institutions of District Srinagar including Government GHSS, Kothibagh, Govt. Women’s College Nawakadal, Govt. GHSS, Sonwar, Govt. GHSS, Soura, Govt. GHSS, Amirakadal, Govt. GHSS Khanyar, Govt GHSS Zadibal respectively.
The purpose of organizing these self-defense training sessions at various educational institutions was to comprehend importance of various self-defense techniques and make the girls learn different self-defense techniques of front kick, Elbow strike, attack and defense, escape with hands trapped, escape from a bear hug attack, groin kick & palm strike and self-defense techniques used for self-protection while travelling, self-defense techniques used while theft incident.
