Kathua : As part of the ongoing efforts to enhance electoral literacy and boost voter participation, a series of impactful events were held on Saturday across Kathua district under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative.
These programs were designed to educate students and the public about the importance of voter registration and active participation in the democratic process.
The day commenced with the flagging off of the SVEEP Awareness Mobile Van by the Deputy District Election Officer (Dy. DEO) Nagesh Singh. The van will traverse the district, spreading crucial information about voter registration, electoral participation and the democratic rights of citizens.
At Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Budhi, an election awareness program, focusing on the significance of enrolling in the electoral roll for individuals aged 18 and above was held. Students were encouraged to act as change agents within their communities, promoting the message of electoral participation.
At GHSS Kathera, under the guidance of Principal Chaman Lal, an engaging session was conducted to highlight the importance of voting and the procedures involved in registering as voters. The program aimed to empower students with knowledge and inspire them to participate actively in the electoral process.
At HSS Forelain Kathua, Principal Mangat Ram Sharma spearheaded an initiative that emphasized ensuring no eligible individual is left unregistered. Students were motivated to take an active role in spreading awareness about the importance of voting, both within the school and in their communities.
At Govt HSS Magloor, a comprehensive electoral literacy program was organized under the leadership of Principal Narinder Singh, in alignment with the Second Special Summary Revision. Senior Lecturer in Political Science and BLO Supervisor, Ranjeet Singh, along with the school’s Literacy Club, provided in-depth insights into the summary revision process and the necessary documentation for voter registration. Students were urged to encourage recent 12th-grade graduates to register with their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
At GHSS Chandwan, an awareness program focusing on the Second Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls was held under the guidance of the school’s principal and BLO of Chandwan Panchayat, Sandeep Singh. Neha Gupta informed students about an upcoming voter registration camp scheduled for July 28, 2024, and discussed the importance of completing Form 6 for new voter registration. The program also highlighted the necessary documents required for registration, ensuring that students who have turned 18 years on or before July 1, 2024, are registered as new voters.
Meanwhile Special camps under ongoing Second Special Summary Revision were held in all assembly segments of Kathua district where Booth Level Officers hold camps for registration of news voters besides updating the electoral rolls by taking form 6, 7, 6B and 8 for the purification of electoral records.
Pertinently, under ongoing Second Summary Revision Special Camps are being organised on 27 & 28th July and 3-4th August 2024 at all Polling Stations for registration of new voters and correction of data of existing voters.
These initiatives are part of the District Election Cell’s dedication to foster electoral literacy and ensure that every eligible citizen is registered and informed. By targeting educational institutions and engaging students, the district aims to build a foundation of informed and active citizens committed to participating in the democratic process.
