Doda: The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Doda, Harvinder Singh, convened a crucial meeting of the District Cooperative Development Committee (DCDC) to assess the progress and implementation of the world’s largest Grain Storage Plan within the cooperative sector.
The meeting, held in the chamber of the Deputy Commissioner, aimed to ensure seamless execution and efficient monitoring of this ambitious project.
During the meeting, the Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies, NisakiUlFarooq, presented a detailed overview of possible land selection for setting up the food storages.
Discussions also covered the establishment of Jan AushadhiKendras, KisanSamriddhiKendras (PMKSKs), fertilizer shops, and the computerization of all PACS (Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies) under the cooperative sector.
The DDC directed the creation of a project to support the activities of all PACS under the cooperative sector and asked for the target of FPOs (Farmer Producer Organizations) to be achieved within the month. The DDC also directed the concerned officers to find a solution for the land required for setting up the food storages within a week.
Detailed discussions were held on the formation of FPOs and the establishment of food processing units. The Deputy Registrar informed the chair about two FPUs that are under process.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including the Additional District Development Commissioner, Pran Singh, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies, NisakiUlFarooq (who served as the convener), Assistant Director (FCS&CA), Assistant Director (Fisheries), District Development Manager (NABARD), and representatives from various agricultural and cooperative organizations.
Discussions focused on the current status of the project, challenges encountered, and strategies to overcome them. Emphasis was placed on enhancing coordination among different departments to expedite the project’s implementation. The committee also deliberated on potential directions for future actions, including optimizing storage infrastructure, improving logistical support, and ensuring the quality and safety of stored grains.
It was informed during the meeting that around 27 PACS under the cooperative sector are currently operating. The main agenda discussed in the meeting included the world’s largest grain storage plan, PM KisanSamriddhiKendras (PMKSKs), PM Jan AushadhiKendras, registration of new PACS in uncovered panchayats, registration of new fisheries in uncovered panchayats, registration of new dairies in uncovered panchayats, establishment of food processing units, and PACS as FPOs. It was informed that out of the 27 PACS, 8 are already doing fertilizer business, 10 have received F/L, 5 have applied for F/L, and 4 are under process.
By the end of the meeting, the participants had outlined a comprehensive action plan with specific timelines and responsibilities. The DDC expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to meet the project’s objectives and contribute significantly to the agricultural sector’s growth in Doda. This initiative, seen as a landmark in cooperative efforts, is expected to bolster food security and enhance the livelihoods of farmers in the region.
