Budgam: In a bid to develop scientific curiosity among students, a workshop on Astrophysics held at Boys Higher Secondary School, Humhama proved to be an enlightening experience for 20 enthusiastic participants from Kashmir Valley School.
The program was organized under Aghaaz Initiative, which is powered by Samagra Shiksha, J&K, in collaboration with IIT Kanpur. The event aimed to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical insights into celestial phenomena. Led by Sheikh Zahid Lateef from Aghaaz Labs and accompanied by Mr. Binu Ji Bhat, the workshop commenced with fundamental lessons in astrophysics. Students delved into the intricacies of stars, galaxies, and the solar system, complemented by Teaching Learning Materials (TLM) models that elucidated sun spots and other cosmic phenomena. A pivotal moment in the workshop was the hands-on experience with telescopes, allowing students to operate the equipment and witness real-time observations of celestial bodies. This practical engagement served to deepen their understanding of astronomy beyond classroom teachings. The initiative, part of Aghaaz Labs’ ‘Community Outreach Program’ and ‘School as Nodal Center for Aghaaz’ initiative, exemplified collaborative learning across educational sectors. Representatives from government and private schools attended, underscoring the event’s significance in integrating diverse educational platforms. Students from Kashmir Valley School expressed immense gratitude for the opportunity to apply theoretical concepts in a practical setting. Many voiced aspirations towards careers in scientific research and astronomy, citing the workshop as a motivating factor. Acknowledged for meticulous planning and execution, Aghaaz Labs ensured a seamless learning experience, providing robust support to both students and educators throughout the workshop. The event culminated in accolades for BHSS Humhama, Principal Samiya Geelani, and the implementing agencies for their commitment to educational enrichment.
