Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Baramulla and also recovered contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police party of Police Station Tangmarg headed by SHO Police Station Tangmarg at a checkpoint established at Zeeran Tangmarg, intercepted a vehicle (load carrier) bearing registration number JK05D-9395 driven by Tariq Ahmad Bhat S/o Gh Qadir R/o Hathishat Sopore and during search recovered 5 kgs of contraband Poppy Straw like substance from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and shifted to Police Station Tangmarg where he remains in custody , adding therein that the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized on spot.
Stating that a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Tangmarg besides initiating further investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society and reassured that it will act tough against the criminals as per law.
