Srinagar: Below is the timelines of weeklong public event held within and outside Jammu & Kashmir:-
01: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Friday amended the transaction of business of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir Rules, 2019. According to amendments made by the MHA, the proposals relating to transfer of administrative secretaries and cadre posts of All India Service (AIS) officers shall be submitted to the Lieutenant Governor of J&K by the administrative secretary, General Administration Department through the Chief Secretary.
02: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has reconstituted the Professional Board of Jammu Central Cooperative Bank Ltd (JCCBL) for two years under the J&K Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Act, 2018. This initiative aims to implement revival packages approved by the Central and State Governments to help the bank meet the 9% Capital Risk Adequacy Ratio (CRAR) mandated by the Banking Regulation Act, 2012.
03: Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has advised the owners of under-construction commercial and residential buildings to immediately apply for temporary connection (TC) in the concerned Electric Subdivision offices for running operations that require electricity. The owners can apply for TC, after following due procedure as enshrined in the Supply Code and avail TC facility easily.
04: Police have busted a human trafficking gang and rescued four minor girls from the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. Two people, Shakeel Ahmad Bhat and Mehraj-u-Din Tantray, both residents of Baramulla, were arrested.
05: The final flight of the Hajj 2024, carrying 317 pilgrims, landed at Srinagar International Airport on Friday morning, marking the conclusion of this year’s pilgrimage for Jammu and Kashmir. The journey, however, has been marred by tragedy, as 11 yatris from the region as per the officials succumbed to ‘heat stroke’ during the holy pilgrimage.
06: Top officials from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, BSF, Central Agencies, and Punjab Police convened an Inter-State Coordination meeting in Kathua on Thursday. The security grid along the IB in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab was reviewed along with measures to plug any loopholes to counter infiltration. It was chaired by Border Security Force (BSF) Special Director General, Western Command, Y B Khurania.
07: A Long-Range Patrolling (LRP) operation by the 21st Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) found significant haul including 108 international gold bars weighing 108.060 kg, etc in the Southern Sub Sector of Eastern Ladakh.
08: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited the Nunwan and Chandanwari base camps and reviewed the arrangements for the ongoing holy yatra of Shri AmarnathJi. The Lt Governor interacted with the yatris, and enquired about their Yatra experience.
09: Five soldiers were killed and five others injured when their vehicle was ambushed by militants in the remote Machedi area of Billawar in Kathua district on July 08. The attack occurred around 3:30 pm when the Army vehicle was on a routine patrol on the Machedi-Kindli-Malhar road near Badnota village, 150 km from Kathua town. Militants hurled a grenade and opened fire, targeting the vehicle.
10: In a bid to curb power theft and reduce losses, the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has launched a massive crackdown on illegal connections, conducting 55,321 inspection drives in the past three months. The drive has resulted in the disconnection of 11,450 consumers for non-payment of dues, with outstanding arrears of Rs 43.26 crore recovered.
11: Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General M V Suchindra Kumar reviewed the logistics, security preparedness for the annual Amarnathyatra that commenced on June 29th.
12: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha unveiled the book titled “The Swinging 70s: The Stars, Style and Substance in Hindi Cinema,” edited by Nirupama Kotru and Shantanu Ray Chaudhuri, during an event in Srinagar. Lauding the editors and publisher Om Books for their contribution, Sinha emphasised that cinema is not merely entertainment but a potent force for societal change. He highlighted the role of Indian filmmakers in balancing entertainment with social responsibility, shaping cultural ethos, and contributing to nation-building.
