Human trafficking racket busted in B’la, 2 accused arrested: Police

Srinagar: Police on Friday said that it has busted a human trafficking module operating in Ushkura, Baramulla.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that the investigation revealed that Shakeel Ahmad Bhat R/o Ushkura, Baramulla was involved in the trafficking and exploitation of minor girls from outside Jammu & Kashmir.
Stating that a case under FIR No. 173/2024 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Baramulla besides initiating investigation into the case, Police in its statement said that while acting swiftly on the inputs a police team raided Shakeel Ahmad Bhat’s residential premises and rescued three minor girls who are from Rohingya Burma, adding therein that the raid was conducted in presence of a Magistrate and lady police officials.
Police in its statement further said “during interrogation, Shakeel Ahmad Bhat confessed that he sold one girl to Mehraj Ahmad Tantray, a resident of Kanlibagh upon which police subsequently raided at Tantray’s residence thatled to the rescue of another minor girl from Burma Rohingya”.
Stating that both Shakeel Ahmad Bhat and Mehraj-u-Din Tantray have been arrested and further efforts are now underway to apprehend other individuals involved in this human trafficking racket, Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement appealed people to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities promptly.
