KU organises seminar on post-modernity challenges & Indian legal system

Srinagar : To explore the impact of post-modern thought on the Indian legal system and to examine the challenges posed by issues such as globalisation, technological advancements and the rise of identity politics, the School of Law, University of Kashmir (KU), in collaboration with the School of Legal Studies, Central University of Kashmir (CUK), Thursday, organised a daylong national seminar here.
The seminar titled, ‘Post-Modernity Challenges and Indian Legal System: Prospects and Perspectives’ was aimed to explore the potential for the legal system to adapt and evolve in response to these challenges. In his keynote, Dean, School of Legal Studies, CUK, Prof Farooq Ahmad Mir, discussed the myriad challenges currently faced by the institution of law and justice. He said, “The legal system is at a crossroads, facing unprecedented challenges that require innovative and forward-thinking solutions.”
Chairperson, Centre for International Legal Studies, JNU, New Delhi, Prof Bharat Desai, provided a critical appraisal of the existing legal regime in his special address. “Our legal framework needs to evolve continuously to address the complexities of a rapidly changing world,” Prof Desai reiterated. Dean, College Development Council (DCDC), KU, Prof Khurshid A Butt, termed the seminar on such a timely and relevant and said: “The collaboration between KU and CUK exemplifies the commitment to addressing vital issues through scholarly discourse.”
Dean and Head, School of Law, KU, Prof Mohammad Hussain, underscored the significance of such seminars for encouraging academic dialogue and enhancing the knowledge base of students and faculty alike.
“The Indian legal system, rooted in colonial and pre-colonial traditions, faces unprecedented challenges in the era of post-modernity, and it is our responsibility to address these issues through dialogue and discourse,” he maintained.
