Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Baramulla and also recovered huge quantity of contraband substance from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police party of Police Station Tangmarg headed by SHO Police Station Tangmarg at a checkpoint established at Shrai Tangmarg, intercepted a suspect identified as Abdul Ahad Wagay S/o Gh Mohi-Ud-Din R/o Shrai and during search recovered 11.5 Kgs of Poppy Straw & Poppy Powder from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and shifted to Police station Tangmarg where he remains in custody.
Stating that a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Tangmarg besides initiating investigation into the case, Police in its statement further said that during questioning, the said accused disclosed the name of his accomplice drug peddler identified as Mohammad Ashraf Wani S/o Gh Rasool R/o Kitchimatpora who too was subsequently arrested and on his disclosure 900 grams of Poppy Powder was recovered from his possession following he was shifted to PS Tangmarg.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, reiterating therein its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
