Kishtwar : Under the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar, Dr. Devansh Yadav, a comprehensive market inspection was on Wednesday conducted to ensure fair trading practices and maintain consumer rights ahead of the Shree Sarthal Devi Yatra here at Sarthal Main Market.
The inspection team, led by Shafqat Keen Assistant Director of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Kishtwar, included officials from various departments and police.
The primary objective of this inspection was to monitor the compliance of vendors with government regulations, particularly regarding the display and adherence to approved rate lists, verification of weighing machines, and maintaining overall market hygiene.
These measures are essential to prevent overpricing and ensure that consumers are not exploited during the Yatra Season when market activities typically surge.
The team rigorously checked the rate lists displayed by vendors. It was found that several vendors were not adhering to the approved price lists. Consequently, fines were imposed on defaulters aimed to curb over-profiteering and ensuring that essential commodities remain affordable for all citizens during the Yatra period.
Alongside the inspections, an awareness campaign was conducted to educate vendors on the importance of displaying rate lists, verifying weighing machines, and maintaining cleanliness in their premises.
Ensuring cleanliness in the market area was another focal point of the inspection. Vendors were reminded of their responsibility to maintain hygienic conditions, which is particularly important during festivals when food safety concerns are heightened. They were advised to keep their stalls clean and dispose of waste properly to prevent any health hazards.
The inspection drive received positive feedback from the local community, who appreciated the administration’s proactive measures to ensure a fair and clean market environment.
The FCS&CA department assured that similar inspections would continue regularly to maintain market discipline and protect consumers from malpractices.
