Srinagar: Ahmad Ayaz, a renowned social activist and national TV debater, expressed deep grief and shock over the tragic incident that occurred in Rajwar Village, Handwara, in which a father, son, and two daughters lost their lives in a road accident while en route to fetch drinking water. He said in a statement that this family, hailing from Rajwar, was forced to undertake this journey due to the lack of proper drinking water supply in their area.
This heartbreaking incident raises critical questions about the services being provided by officials and politicians. Despite the region’s abundant water resources, many areas still lack access to drinking water through pipelines. Even in locations where pipelines exist, there is no proper and regular supply.
Ahmad yaz emphasized the urgent need for accountability among the employees responsible for managing drinking water in these areas. He questioned whether their salaries should be withheld for failing to serve the public effectively. This incident underscores the necessity for accountability, better planning and investment in water infrastructure to prevent such tragedies in the future.
