Jammu : Mission Shakti Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women (HEW) Jammu, under the supervision of District Social Welfare Officer Jammu, Mamta Rajput, conducted two awareness programmes under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme in block Bhalwal.
The first programme focussed on the nutritional health of pregnant and lactating mothers and was held in village Seri. Dr. Era Suri from District Hospital Kot Bhalwal emphasised the importance of regular checkups during pregnancy and highlighted the necessary nutritional elements for pregnant women. She also provided counseling on pre-pregnancy care and preventive measures during the trimesters.
Dr. Suri addressed various health-related queries from the attendees and suggested suitable medications. Officials from Mission Shakti Sankalp HEW Jammu discussed various health schemes such as PMMVY, Janani Suraksha Yojana, Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram, Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan and Ayushman Bharat, explaining how pregnant women can enroll and benefit from these government initiatives.
The second programme was an awareness cum grievances camp at village Ghaink, organised in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission. A large number of women from Ghaink and the surrounding areas participated. Gender Specialist Khushboo Kapte highlighted several government schemes aimed at empowering women, including BBBP, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Ladli Beti, various scholarship schemes, business and skill-oriented programs, and pensions for old age, widows and the physically challenged. These initiatives are designed to promote women’s education, health and safety.
At the conclusion of the session, sanitary napkins were distributed among adolescent girls as part of the BBBP initiative. District Mission Coordinator Mission Shakti, Shagun Manchanda, assured full cooperation to the women in accessing various schemes.
