“People raising fears of dehydration at Government and Private hospitals during the ongoing heat wave periods in Kashmir Valley are also advised to have a glass of water before heading out by the doctors.”

A harsh heat wave triggered by unprecedented rise in temperatures has created the fears of health complication for the first time in Kashmir Valley. Unfortunately more vulnerable to heat waves are the elderly people over and above the age of 65 years and the children below the age of 16 years in most parts of the country and fears of increasing vulnerability of elderly people and children below the age of 16 years are rising in Kashmir Valley also this year. Though health specialists in other parts of the country issues advisories wherein they advise people to take certain measures to  avoid heat stroke and exhaustion but such advisories are yet to be issued by health specialists of J&K Health and Medical Education Departments in Kashmir Valley . What merits a mention here is the fact that health specialist in other parts of the country have times and again noticed it that elders over and above the age of 65 years and children below the age of 16 years having a history of chronic health conditions don’t  respond to heat stress effectively.  People vulnerable to health complications in heat wave periods in most parts of the country like Delhi, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are usually advised to use frequently electrolyte-replenishing fluids to reduce their vulnerably to dehydration and nothing bad in it if elders and children below the age group of 16 years also use such fluids to reduce their vulnerability to dehydration during the ongoing heat wave in Kashmir Valley. People raising fears of dehydration at Government and Private hospitals during the ongoing heat wave periods in Kashmir Valley are also advised to have a glass of water before heading out by the doctors. Never forget the fact that there is complete unanimity among the doctors people consuming alcohol dehydrate much faster than those avoiding alcohol. If at all you drink alcohol, keep a glass of water next to you.

“As precautionary measure better for the people to maintain proper food storage temperatures, keep refrigerators below 40°F (4°C) and freezers at 0°F (-18°C). Perishable foods left out for extended periods, beyond an hour and not promptly refrigerated increase vulnerability of people to food poisoning, characterised by mild gastrointestinal distress and even severe systemic infections. Wisdom demands that people developing fears of gastrointestinal distress and severe systemic infections follow health protocols followed in several states and union territories of the country like Delhi, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh during intense heat wave periods.”

Notably health specialist also believe that improper food preservation also raises vulnerability of people to dehydration during heat wave periods and as such the ongoing heat wave in Kashmir also demands preservation of food as it has been noticed that high temperatures accelerate the growth of bacteria and consequently increasing the risk of food borne ailments. As precautionary measure better for the people to maintain proper food storage temperatures, keep refrigerators below 40°F (4°C) and freezers at 0°F (-18°C). Perishable foods left out for extended periods, beyond an hour and not promptly refrigerated increase vulnerability of people to food poisoning, characterised by mild gastrointestinal distress and even severe systemic infections. Wisdom demands that people developing fears of gastrointestinal distress and severe systemic infections follow health protocols followed in several states and union territories of the country like Delhi, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh during intense heat wave periods.
