DC Flags-Off Rally, Underscores Vital Importance Of Investing In Prevention Of Drug Abuse
Pulwama : The District Administration and Pulwama Police, in collaboration with the National Youth Peace Foundation, Wednesday organised a mega event to commemorate the ‘International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ at the auditorium hall of GDC Boys Pulwama.
Earlier in the day, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom flagged-off a rally from the District Administrative Complex Pulwama, which concluded at the Clock Tower in the main market, Pulwama.
Dr. Basharat Qayoom presiding as the chief guest underscored the vital importance of investing in prevention of drug abuse. He emphasized the need to focus on multiple factors such as awareness, robust enforcement, and teamwork.
He said consistent actions under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have significantly reduced the area of illicit crop cultivation over the years. Efforts to promote alternative livelihoods and impose strict penalties on offenders have been crucial. Victims have been provided with treatment and rehabilitation to aid their reintegration into society, he added.
The increasing demand for medical advice and drug de-addiction centers signifies a positive shift in societal attitudes.
Speakers at the event addressed the drug addiction scenario in the district, highlighting the pivotal role of families, especially mothers and parents in combating drug abuse. Educational institutions were urged to conduct parent-teacher meetings specifically aimed at raising awareness.
Further an appeal was made to religious institutions, preachers and civil society including youth organisations and other NGOs working in this field to join hands in combating Drug menace in the district.
The event featured an oath ceremony and a signature campaign, along with cultural performances such as the Kashmiri Rouf dance, various vibrant cultural programs, nukkad natak, a documentary on drug abuse, skits, poetry, and a rap song on drugs highlighting drug abuse and its negative impact on individuals and society.
Attendees included the Principal of GDC Boys Pulwama, the President of the Traders Federation Pulwama, poets, Imams Jamia Masjid Shareef Pulwama, members of various Auqaf committees, youth participants, and students from various educational institutions across the district.
The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony for the participants and a vote of thanks by Senior Superintendent of Police Pulwama, P. D. Nitya.
DLSA B’pora Organizes Event To Observe ‘Int’l Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking’
Bandipora: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bandipora in coordination with Tehsil Legal Services Committee Bandipora and in collaboration with Education Department Bandipora on Wednesday celebrated ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ with the theme ‘Say no to Drug’ at Govt Higher Secondary School Arin Bandipora.
The programme was held under the supervision of Chairman DLSA Bandipora, Amit Sharma and guidance of Secretary DLSA Bandipora, Nusrat Ali Hakak.
The programme was inaugurated by Nusrat Ali Hakak, Secretary DLSA Bandipora along with Principal Govt Higher Secondary School Arin Bandipora.
On the occasion, the Secretary highlighted the importance and significance of the day and said that the day is observed across the country to raise awareness regarding the ill effects associated with drug abuse. She enlightened the students regarding the benefits of education to cope with sociological crimes. She further enlightened the students about laws against drug abuse.
In the end Principal Govt. Higher Secondary School Arin Bandipora thanked Secretary DLSA Bandipora for organizing such a fruitful awareness program in their institution.

DLSA Kupwara Holds Awareness Prog On ‘Int’l Day Against Drug Abuse, Illicit Trafficking’
Kupwara: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kupwara under the aegis of JK Legal Services Authority and in collaboration with Education Department, Kupwara organized an awareness programme on ‘International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ on Wednesday at Govt. Boys Hr. Sec. School, Kupwara.
The programme was organised under the supervision of Shazia Tabsum, Chairperson, DLSA (Pr. District & Session Judge) Kupwara, and under the guidance of Manzoor Ahmad Khan, Secretary DLSA/Sub-Judge, Kupwara.
The programme had the presence of Ayushi Sudan, DC Kupwara; Ab Majid Dar CEO Kupwara, Principal, GBHSS Kupwara, Assistant LADC Kupwara, Officials from Excise Department and Officials of GBHSS Kupwara.
The objective of the programme was to create an understanding and sensitization about the adverse consequences of drug abuse and how it affects the health of individuals and their families and its impact on the society.
Students from GBHSS Kupwara, KPS Kupwara, Alexandra School Kupwara, Rehmat Aalam School Kupwara, officials of DLSA Kupwara and Para Legal Volunteers also participated in the said programme.
Ayushi Sudan, DC Kupwara administered a pledge to protect youth, families, and communities from the devastating consequences of drug related issues to which the gathering actively took pledge. She also stressed upon the stakeholders to act together so that the society is freed from the devastating effects of drug abuse.
Resource person, Tawseef Raja, (Assistant LADC) while addressing the gathering highlighted the theme “The Evidence is clear, invest in prevention”. He also spoke on the importance of this day and highlighted the adverse effect on the health of the individual, society, economy of the country that is why it is necessary to uproot them with firmness.
He stressed upon the legal consequences of consumption, sale, cultivation and trafficking of drugs in the context of NDPS Act 1985.
The students and the speakers were felicitated by DC Kupwara and CEO Kupwara for the participation in the said programme.
The programme concluded with Vote of Thanks accorded by Chief Education Officer Kupwara, Ab Majeed Dar, who also appreciated the efforts of DLSA Kupwara, and District Administration Kupwara for organizing drug related awareness programmes in educational institutions of the District.
Moreover, a similar programme was held by Tehsil Legal Services Committee Tangdhar in collaboration with Govt. Hr. Sec. School Teetwal, at Legal Aid Clinic Teetwal.
‘Int’l Day Against Drug Abuse And Illicit Trafficking’ Observed At Kupwara
Kupwara : To commemorate the ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking,’ the District Administration on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan Wednesday organized several events including awareness campaigns, rallies, cross country run, painting and quiz competitions across the district to educate people about the dangers of drug abuse and promote healthy lifestyles.
A mega awareness programme ‘Victims of Drug Abuse and Eradication of Drug Menace’ was organized by District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) Kupwara in collaboration with Education department Kupwara at Government Boys higher secondary School Kupwara which was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan.
At the outset, the DC administered the ‘Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life’ pledge to the participants.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that drug abuse and illicit trafficking is a major issue which indeed is posing significant threats to societal well-being, breaking down the social fabric, leading to physical and mental health issues, straining the relationships with family and friends, leading to isolation and loneliness. It is also resulting in financial problems, unemployment, and legal issues.

She further said that the District Administration has taken comprehensive steps in tackling the issue of drug abuse and launched several initiatives in order to bring back and support the victims so that they can live a normal life again.
She said that two Drug de-addiction centers are functioning at Kupwara and Handwara and a third one is being established at Tangdhar.
The DC emphasized that youths and students need to act as ambassadors against the Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in their own locality and institutions.
The event was attended by CEO Kupwara, Abdul Majeed, Principal GHSS Kupwara, Mehraj –u-Din Shah, members of DLSA and students and staff.
Earlier, the DC administered the pledge to the officers and officials of the DC office.
The Additional Deputy commissioner, Kupwara, Muhammad Rouf Rehman flagged-off a Rally which was carried out by the students and staff of Pahadi Boys and Girls Hostels Kupwara. Rally started from District Jail Kupwara, after passing through DSWO Kupwara, the rally successfully culminated at Rigipora Chowk. The participants including students and staff carried banners and placards and raised slogans against the menace of drugs.
Meanwhile, the School Education Department, RDD & PR, Health Department, Social Welfare Department and Police, and GMC Handwara organized a series of events across the district to observe International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Awareness campaigns were organized in various schools, Panchayats and other government institutions where speakers disseminated the message that emphasized the understanding of the world drug problem and how better knowledge will foster greater co-operation for countering its impact on future generations.
Various activities were organized to observe the day i.e. Poster-Making, Slogan Writing, debates, seminars, cross country run, and quiz Competition were also organized which not only raised awareness but also mobilized communities to take concrete actions against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

Bandipora: The ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ was observed on Wednesday in the auditorium hall of NM Higher Secondary School, Bandipora.
The program, organized by the Social Welfare Department in collaboration with District Administration Bandipora, was presided over by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, ShakeelulRehman and attended by people from all walks of life.
The program commenced with the NashaMukt Bharat Abhiyaan Pledge, where participants took pledge against drug abuse and to work towards creating a drug-free society.
On the occasion, a book written by renowned educationist Ahmadullah Shah was also released. The program also featured cultural performances by students to highlight the ill effects of drug abuse.
Addressing the gathering, the DC highlighted the role of panchayat-level awareness campaigns to combat drug abuse at the grassroots level.
He urged all stakeholders to come out of denial mode in cases of drug abuse and urged parents to be proactive and tackle drug abuse cases with added responsibility.
He said that drug addicts are victims in need of compassion and effective support systems and stressed the need for collaborative efforts for their rehabilitation.
The DC also urged civil society members and religious heads to play their role in combating drug abuse.

Bandipora: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, ShakeelulRehmanon Wednesday reviewed Muharram arrangements in a meeting held at Dak Bungalow, Irrigation Colony, Sumbal.
The meeting held threadbare discussions regarding various arrangements to be put in place for the smooth observance of the upcoming Muharram ulHaraam in the district.
On the occasion, public delegations led by Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, Representative of AnjumaneSharieShiyaan J&K, presented various issues before the Deputy Commissioner and sought their resolution for smooth observations.
The delegations raised the issues of uninterrupted drinking water, power supply, essential medical supplies, firewood, ration and other essentials, particularly during the auspicious days.

Amarnath Yatra-2024: DC B’pora Visits Yatra Transit Camp Shadipora, Reviews Arrangements
Bandipora: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, ShakeelulRehman, visited yatra transit camp Shadipora on Wednesday to review the arrangements for Amarnath Yatra 2024.
The DC inspected the arrangements for SANJY-2024, including accommodation, electricity, water supply, sanitation, and other necessary measures.
While interacting with the officers of various departments, the DC emphasized finalizing all arrangements in advance to ensure a hassle-free SANJY-2024.

Chairperson DDC Kulgam Reviews Implementation Of RDD Sector Schemes
Kulgam : The Chairperson, District Development Council (DDC) Kulgam, M Afzal Parrey on Wednesday chaired a meeting of Officers to review the implementation of various RDD sector schemes.
The Vice Chairperson of Council, DDC members, Additional District Development Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Kulgam, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat (ACP) Kulgam, Executive Engineer REW Kulgam, BDOs/POs, AE/AEEs attended the meeting.
At the outset of the meeting, the Additional District Development Commissioner Kulgam, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the DDC briefed the chair regarding implementation of RDD sector schemes.
Besides, Assistant Commissioner Development Kulgam (ACD) and Assistant Commissioner Panchayat (ACP) appraised the council scheme-wise viz. MGNREGA, PMAY, CAPEX, RGSA, SBM (G) 2.0 etc. the physical/financial achievements during the year 2023-24, and also provided the overview of the Proposed/ Approved Plan of activities vis-a vis allocation for the current financial year 2024-2025.
Towards the conclusion of the meeting, the DDC Chairperson laid emphasis on effective coordination and collaboration among various stakeholders in addressing socio-economic issues/grievances.
The Council members suggested that monthly Block-wise regular meetings shall be held for better results and efficient management.
Gandhi College, SWO Srinagar Observe ‘Int’l Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking’
Srinagar: The NSS Wing of Gandhi Memorial College Srinagar in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Office (SWO), Srinagar on Wednesday celebrated the ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’.
The event began with an awareness campaign led by Programme Officer, M Zubair Ud Din, who provided an in-depth discussion on various aspects of drug addiction, emphasizing its detrimental effects on individuals and society and highlighting the necessity of preventive measures.
Following this, students Aisha, Afifa, Jazla and Muskan delivered insightful speeches on the theme, sharing their perspectives and reinforcing the message of the campaign.
The program culminated in an awareness rally, which commenced from the college premises and proceeded to the banks of Baba Demb.
The rally saw active participation from students, faculty, and members of the police department, symbolizing a unified effort to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the community.
Multifarious Activities & Events Held On Eve Of ‘Int’l Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking’ At Shopian
Shopian : On the occasion of ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking,’ multifarious activities and events were held across Shopian district, with the aim to create awareness on the menace of Drug Abuse and Trafficking.
This year the theme of the day was ‘The Evidence is Clear, Invest in Prevention.’
At district level, seminar cum rally was organised by Drug Control Organisation Shopian in collaboration with Chemists and Distributors Association.
The rally started from District Hospital, traversed through the main market of town and culminated at Gool Chowk. Prominent citizens, youth, members of chemists and distributors association and police department participated in the rally.
During the program pamphlets and posters depicting the message of ill effects of drug abuse were distributed among the youth and general public. Banners and hoardings were displayed and slogans were raised against the drug menace during the Rally.
Later an anti-drug pledge was taken by all the participants of the rally at Gool Chowk Shopian.
Similarly, the Department of Education and Social Welfare organised events at DIET Shopian where a large number of students and other concerned stakeholders participated in pledge, seminars and rally.
Besides, a large gathering of students, officers of departments also participated in the events and highlighted the importance of concrete action at all levels to contain the spread of the drug menace. Magnitude of the drug problem was stressed upon and students were impressed to act as messengers in the community against its hazardous effects.
Elsewhere, across the district, government departments and educational institutions also took out rallies and conducted awareness campaigns against Drug Abuse.
‘Int’l Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking’ Observed At GDC Khansahib
Budgam : On the eve of ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking,’ celebrated every year on 26th June, the District Police Budgam in collaboration with the NSS and NCORD cell observed the day at Government Degree College (GDC) Khansahib.
In his speech, the SDPO Khansahib, Gh. Mohi-ud-Din gave an overview of substance abuse and its adverse impact on family and society. He cautioned the young audience against ‘addiction trap’ and urged them to remain vigilant against anti-social elements.
Earlier, the program began with a welcome address presented by NSS Programme Officer, Dr. Sajad Padder. He thanked college Principal Dr. Nargis Bano for her support and encouragement in organizing such programmes.
The role of civil & police administration of sub-district Khansahib both in raising awareness about substance abuse and in dealing with this menace was also highlighted.
The event was also graced by SHO Khansahib, Bahar Ahmad Khan; faculty members, non-teaching staff and students.
At the end of the programme, an anti-drug rally was taken out from the college campus up to main market Khansahib.
Int’l Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking Observed At G’bal
Ganderbal : Under the aegis of J&K Legal Services Authority, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ganderbal in collaboration with Chief Education Office, Ganderbal observed International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, on Wednesday 26th June at Govt. Boys Hr. Secondary School, Manigam.
The event was held under the active supervision of Amit Kumar Gupta, Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority and Ritesh Kumar Dubey, Chairman DLSA (Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Ganderbal, and under the guidance of Nusrat Ali Hakak, Secretary DLSA Ganderbal.
On the Occasion, Secretary DLSA, Ganderbal, in her presidential address said that the observance of this day is aimed to raise awareness about the serious problems associated with illicit drugs. She said the main focus of organizing the event is to spread awareness among the masses particularly in youth and to draw attention of the participants about ill effects of drug abuse.
She highlighted the legal provisions related to Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking and its severe consequences. She called for joint efforts of various stakeholders to eradicate drug menace. She said society as a whole and family has an important role to play against drug abuse.
Chief Education Officer, Ganderbal, while speaking on the occasion, educated the participants about the Toll Free Helpline launched by the Ministry for Social Justice and Empowerment to assist the alcoholic and drug dependent persons and in order to mitigate the problems of Drug Abuse.
He assessed that the global drug problem casts a long shadow impacting individuals, families, and communities worldwide. From those struggling with addiction to the violence fueled by drug trafficking, the consequences are devastating.
Afshan Showkat, Clinical Psychologist, deliberated on this year’s theme which is, ‘The evidence is clear: invest in prevention.’ She said this theme highlights the importance of supporting evidence-based strategies to prevent drug use before it starts. She deliberated on various issues regarding addiction treatment facilities.
Students of various schools also participated in the said event by way of speeches, skits, and cultural programs etc, held on the subject topic.
The Secretary DLSA, Ganderbal, Chief Education Officer Ganderbal, and Deputy Chief Education Officer, Ganderbal, distributed mementos and certificates of appreciation among the students who have actively participated in various activities.
Later, an awareness rally was also held in which faculty members, along with hundreds of students participated in the rally, which began from School premises and culminated at Manigam Byepass.

Rajouri: Amidst enthusiasm and fervor, the District Administration Rajouri observed the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking here on Wednesday with the theme, ‘The evidence is clear: invest in prevention.’
During the event, a number of speakers shared their viewpoint on drug abuse and illicit trafficking. They highlighted the need for greater awareness and education, as well as the importance of taking concrete steps to prevent drug abuse and trafficking. As part of the celebrations, a cricket match was organized at Sports Stadium Kheora by the Social Welfare Department in collaboration with the Youth Services and Sports Department and was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner. Among the others, DSWO, Abdul Raheem and DYSSO Rajouri were also present on the occasion.
The celebrations also included the launch of a signature campaign aimed at mobilizing public support for the cause. The campaign seeks to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking and to encourage people to take a pledge to remain drug-free and support the fight against drug abuse and trafficking. A Nasha Mukt pledge was also taken by all the participants on this occasion. Moreover, a vehicle was flagged off to spread awareness about Nasha Mukt Abhiyan to educate people about the harmful effects of drug abuse.

GDC Marh Observes Int’l Day Against Drug Abuse, Illicit Trafficking
Jammu: International Day against Drug Abuse and illicit trafficking was observed at Government Degree College, Marh under the aegis of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
NSS Unit and Road Safety club along with Bharat Scout and guide unit of the college organized a series of awareness events under the guidance of Principal, Prof. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul.
A slogan writing/ Play Card, Poster making competition was organized on June 24 to raise awareness about harmful effects of Drug Abuse and illegal trade of Drugs.
An interactive session was held with the participants in which students shared their views with the Principal of the college.
The Principal said that Drug abuse has posed a major challenge as many youth are destroying their lives by getting addicted to drugs. “It’s very important to sensitize our youth on the subject of drug abuse. They are ruining the lives of our youth and putting their future in darkness. The abuse of drugs is making their lives vulnerable and prone to destruction,” he added.

Int’l Day Against Drug Abuse Observed In Poonch
Poonch: To mark the International Day against Drug Abuse-2024, the Department of Social Welfare on the direction of Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Yasin M. Choudhary organized a series of events across Poonch district to raise awareness and promote the message of a “Drug-Free India.”
The day-long programmes commenced with a plantation drive at City Forest Poonch.
Later, the Social Welfare Department, in collaboration with the Forest Department, flagged off Hiking expedition at City Forest Poonch. The Hiking Expedition was flagged Off by District Social Welfare Officer, Wakeel Ahmed Bhaat and Divisional Forest Officer (SF), Naveed Iqbal in presence of Prof.Sarfraz Mir, Prof. Aurangzeb, Chairman Child Labour and other officers, official.
During the day-long programme, numerous activities including, Public rallies, awareness programmes and cricket matches were held in Mandi, Mendhar, and Seri Khawaja sanai and Surankote involving over 1200-1500 youth and members of civil society.
Around Five thousand stickers were pasted on public transport vehicles, carrying the message “Say No to Drugs.”
An awareness rally, under the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” theme was taken out at High School Sanai.
Counseling sessions for youth, a painting competition, and a signature campaign were also conducted at the DC Office, SDM Office Mendhar, and Surankote with huge participation of youth and public.
Around 200-250 youth participated in the hiking activity, including young Budding Taekwondo players.
A media awareness van was flagged off by Additional Deputy Commissioner Tahir Mustafa Malik, which will traverse across the District to disseminate the message of NMBA campaign.
Anti-Drug pledge ceremonies were also held as part of the programme.
The District Social Welfare Officer appealed to the public to say “No to Drugs” and spread the message of a drug-free society.
The programme was held under the overall supervision and direction of Deputy Commissioner, who urged the public to extend their cooperation in making this campaign a great success.
