Anantnag: A historic moment for the residents of the last village in Anantnag district as the Public Works Department (PWD) started construction on the Hangipura-Saskhudan road.Local people of Naugam Nard and Saskhudan villages of Tehsil Shahabad Bala Varinag celebrated the commencement of work at Hangipura with great enthusiasm.
The long awaited project was inaugurated by the local DDC member, Pir Shahbaz Ahmad. He was accompanied by Assistant Executive Engineer Muhammad Iqbal Ganai and other officers.Highlighting the importance of the event, Pir Shahbaz in his speech said that the demand for this road was pending since 1947, the year India gained independence. Despite several promises made by various politicians over the decades, the hopes of the villagers have not been fulfilled so far. The locals expressed their immense happiness and gratitude towards the Modi government and the LG administration. Speaking to the media, he said that after the abrogation of Article 370, a new era of development had indeed begun in Jammu and Kashmir and “this road is a testament to the development initiatives taken by the Modi administration in our region,” he said. On this occasion, Assistant Executive Engineer Muhammad Iqbal said that the residents of Nowgam Nard Saskhuden have been waiting for a long time regarding the road which was inaugurated today. He said that the project is estimated to cost around 6 crore rupees and efforts will be made to make the road passable within the stipulated period. He said that because the area is hilly, it is quite difficult work for the contractor, but he appealed to the people to cooperate during the work.
