Srinagar : Moul Mouj Health Centre, an initiative by Kashmir Clinics, dedicated to the comprehensive care of senior citizens, was inaugurated in Srinagar on Friday.
Dr Zubair Saleem, Specialist of Senior Citizens, with 12 years of experience, remarked on the inauguration, stating, “Throughout my practice, I’ve had the privilege of treating over 30,000 seniors in Kashmir.
“I have witnessed first-hand the health challenges they face and sadly, the prevalence of elder abuse. Shockingly, one out of every two senior citizens experiences abuse, often from their own family members.”
“In response to these critical issues,” Dr. Zubair continued, “we are taking a significant step towards ensuring the holistic mental and physical well-being of our seniors, supporting them in graceful aging.
The establishment of Moul Mouj Health Centre is a pivotal part of this mission, providing an exclusive space dedicated to the care and dignity of our elderly.”
Talking to Kashmir Horizon, Dr. Zubair said this Moul Mouj Health Centre is set to play a transformative role in society by addressing critical challenges faced by senior citizens in Srinagar.
“With a dedicated focus on comprehensive senior care, the centre will offer specialized medical services that cater to the specific health needs of elderly individuals. From chronic disease management to geriatric rehabilitation, the centre aims to enhance the quality of life for seniors through personalized and compassionate healthcare,” he said.
Dr. Zubair said that the centre will serve as a beacon in the community, actively working to prevent elder abuse and neglect. By raising awareness and providing a safe haven for seniors, it seeks to combat the unfortunate prevalence of mistreatment experienced by many elderly individuals.
“Through advocacy, education, and community engagement initiatives, the Moul Mouj Health Centre aspires to create a supportive environment where seniors can thrive with dignity and respect.”
Dr Zubair said that with advancing age, individuals often contend with chronic health conditions, decreased mobility, and cognitive changes. Proper elderly care addresses these needs by providing medical attention, personalized assistance with daily activities, and access to therapies and treatments that enhance their quality of life.”
He further said that beyond physical health, elderly care also plays a crucial role in addressing social and emotional needs.
“Many seniors face isolation or loneliness due to factors like living alone or losing social connections over time. Caregivers in elderly care settings offer companionship, social activities, and emotional support, fostering a sense of community and belonging that is essential for mental well-being,” he added.
Another doctor said that elderly care ensures a safe and secure environment where seniors can thrive without the fear of accidents or neglect.
“Facilities and caregivers are trained to anticipate and respond to emergencies promptly, minimizing risks and providing peace of mind to both seniors and their families.”
He said this holistic approach to elderly care not only promotes independence by supporting daily living activities but also respects the dignity and autonomy of older adults, allowing them to maintain their identity and preferences as they age gracefully.
“By recognizing the unique needs of seniors and providing specialized care tailored to those needs, elderly care serves as a cornerstone in ensuring that older adults can live with comfort, dignity, and a sense of purpose in their later years,” he said.
