New Delhi : Multiple petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court on the result the NEET-UG 2024 exam.
Advocate J. Sai Deepak who also filed a petition on behalf of almost 20,000 students said, “Multiple petitions have been listed in the Apex Court. Some of the petitions were filed before the declaration of results on the basis that there had been a leak of the paper itself.
Notices have been issued on those petitions.
Sai Deepak said, “Our petition is slightly different. We represent Alakh Pandey, who has collected signatures from about 20,000 students which clearly shows that close to about 70 to 80 marks have been awarded in grace marks randomly to at least 1,500 students.
We are challenging the arbitrary award of grace marks. The court has indicated that our matter will also be taken up with the other matters but the court is clear that it will not stay the counselling process at this stage,” Sai Deepak said.
Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court vacation bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah had issued notice to the Centre and the National Testing Agency on a petition seeking the cancellation of the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET) exam held this year for the Under-Graduate (UG) Medical courses over an alleged paper leak.
The Court had directed the centre and the NTA to reply by July 8.
After the Counsel for NTA told the Apex court that another petition was pending and a notice was issued by a bench led by the Chief Justice of India on May 17.
That petition is listed on July 8, he informed. The bench then clubbed the present petition along with the earlier petition which is listed on July 8.
After the declaration of the results, a few more petitions were filed in the Supreme Court questioning the decision of the NTA to award grace marks to several candidates. However, those petitions, which were filed after the declaration of results, were not listed today.
Sai Deepak said that his petition signed by 200 students has not been taken up by the court yet but we are trying that petition taken up early as its case is different than the earlier petitions.
