Srinagar : The Drugs and Food Control Organization (DFCO) celebrated World Food Safety Day throughout the Valley while the main event was held at Government Degree College in Bemina, Srinagar.
The event was presided over by food safety officer, Additional District Development Commissioner, Zahoor Ahmad Mir, among others.
Throughout the ceremony, the speakers emphasized the crucial importance of food safety.
Deputy Commissioner of Food Safety Kashmir, Shagufta Jalal, discussed the risks associated with various foods and the collective responsibility of consumers and stakeholders in ensuring food safety.
“World Food Safety Day is all about creating awareness among the people about food safety. The aim of today is to consume nutritious food which is good for our health,” she stated.
Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar, Yamin Nabi, added, “Safe food is a cornerstone of public health. We must be vigilant and proactive in our approach to food safety. Food safety starts from our kitchen to the public. Like maintaining hygiene in our kitchens, the same should be followed outside to remain healthy. We all are stakeholders, and it’s a responsibility as being a retailer, distributor, or consumer.”
Local attendees also expressed their views. A resident of Srinagar, Fatima, said, “It’s reassuring to see our leaders take such a proactive stance on food safety. It reminds us to be cautious and make informed choices about what we eat.”
“This event has highlighted the importance of community involvement in food safety. It’s not just about the authorities but also about us, the consumers,” added Mohammad Yousuf, another local attendee.
