President Invits Modi To Form Govt, oath at 6 PM Sunday

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu appointed Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India on Friday after he formally staked claim to form the government. as the elected leader of the BJP backed by letters of support from NDA constituents.
Modi, set to become only the second person after Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to become the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive term, will take oath at 6 PM on Sunday.
A National Democratic Alliance (NDA) delegation led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President J. P. Nadda called on the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan at 2-30 PM and handed over a letter stating that Modi has been elected as Leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party, a Rashtrapati Bhavan communiqué said.
“Letters of support from NDA constituent parties were also handed over to the President,: said the communiqué.
he other members of the delegation included BJP stalwarts Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, as also Ashwini Vaishnaw and C.N. Manjunath, N. Chandrababu Naidu from Telugu Desam Party, Nitish Kumar, Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh) and Sanjay Jha from Janata Dal (United), Eknath Shinde from Shiv Sena; H.D. Kumaraswamy from Janata Dal (Secular), Chirag Paswan from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and members of smaller parties..
“The President, having satisfied herself on the basis of the various letters of support received, that the BJP-led NDA alliance, which is also the largest pre-election alliance, is in a position to command majority support of the newly constituted 18th Lok Sabha and to form a stable government, appointed Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India exercising powers vested in her under Article 75(1) of the Constitution of India,” the communiqué read.
The President requested Modi to advise her about the names of other persons to be appointed as members of the Union Council of Ministers.
Earlier, Modi met the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan and staked a claim to form the government for the third consecutive term.
The Prime Minister arrived at Rashtrapati Bhavan after he was unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP-led NDA in the presence of TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu, JD(U) Chief Nitish Kumar, and other alliance partners in the Central Hall of the old parliament building.
In his brief remarks after meeting the President, the Prime Minister said ‘NDA will form a strong, stable and growth-oriented government”.
He said, “The NDA partners have reposed trust in me. On June 9, 2024, I will take the oath as the Prime Minister of India”.
The Prime Minister said, “NDA-3 will put in even more efforts for the development of India and the realisation of the aspirations of its people”.
Thanking countrymen for giving him a chance to serve the nation for the third time, Modi said, ” I assure you that India will continue to develop in every sector at an even faster pace than during our previous two terms”.
The swearing-in ceremony of Modi and his Council of Ministers will take place at 6 PM on June 9, in the presence of several global leaders who have been specially invited to attend the event.
The Prime Minister also met BJP veterans Lal Krishna Advani and Murali Manohar Joshi.
“Went to Advani Ji’s residence and sought his blessings. Every @BJP4India Karyakarta is inspired by Advani Ji’s monumental efforts to strengthen the Party,” he wrote in an X post.
In another tweet, Modi said “Called on Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi Ji. I have learned so much from him when I was working in the Party organisation. He is greatly respected across India for his wisdom and knowledge”.
