New Delhi: US President Joe Biden on Wednesday called up Prime Minister Narendra Modi to congratulate him on his third successive term at the helm of the country.
President Biden also posted his congratulations on X and said the friendship between their two nations is only growing. PM Modi in a post on X spoke about their telephone conversation, and said that he had conveyed that their bilateral partnership is “poised to witness many new landmarks in the years to come”.
PM Modi said: “Happy to receive call from my friend President @JoeBiden. Deeply value his warm words of felicitations and his appreciation for the Indian democracy. Conveyed that India-US Comprehensive Global Partnership is poised to witness many new landmarks in the years to come. Our partnership will continue to be a force for global good for the benefit of humanity. @POTUS” Earlier, in a post on X, the US President said: “Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance on their victory, and the nearly 650 million voters in this historic election. “The friendship between our nations is only growing as we unlock a shared future of unlimited potential.”
The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, in a post on X also extended his congratulations and said the US looks forward to advancing the bilateral partnership.
“Congratulations to @narendramodi and the National Democratic Alliance on their victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha general elections. The U.S. looks forward to advancing our partnership with the Indian government and commends the estimated 650 million voters who exercised their right to vote.” The US State Department in an official statement also congratulated PM Modi and the NDA alliance on their victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and said they look forward to continuing to further the bilateral partnership, including to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
US State Department spokesperson Mathew Miller said: “With approximately 650 million voters casting their ballots over the past six weeks, these elections represent the largest exercise in democracy in human history. We commend Indian voters, poll workers, civil society, and journalists for their commitment and vital contributions to India’s democratic processes and institutions.” “We look forward to continuing to further our partnership with the Indian government to promote prosperity and innovation, address the climate crisis, and ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific region,” the statement said. The congratulatory phone call, messages and statement came after the BJP-led NDA alliance unanimously elected Modi as head of the alliance, which has notched up the numbers to form the government at the Centre. PM Modi will be heading the government for the third successive term, though with a reduced majority for his BJP party, which will be depending on the votes of crucial regional allies to stay afloat.
