Modi responds to world leaders’ congratulations on historic third-term victory

New Delhi, June 05: Following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) third consecutive victory in the Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been inundated with congratulatory messages from world leaders. These well-wishes, delivered through Twitter, official channels, and phone calls, highlight the global recognition of Modi’s leadership and India’s democratic process.

Maldives:

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu tweeted: “Congratulations to Prime Minister @narendramodi, and the BJP and BJP-led NDA, on the success in the 2024 Indian General Elections, for the third consecutive term. I look forward to working together to advance our shared interests in pursuit of shared prosperity and stability for our two countries.”

Modi’s Reply: “Thank you President @MMuizzu. Maldives is our valued partner and neighbour in the Indian Ocean region. I too look forward to closer cooperation for further strengthening our bilateral ties.”

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef also congratulated Modi and the BJP on their victory.

Modi’s Reply: “Appreciate your kind message Vice President @HucenSembe. Together to deepen bilateral partnership.”

Former Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid remarked: “Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on being re-elected for a historic third term. Under your leadership, #India has significantly improved its relationship with #Maldives and the region. I am confident you will build on these successes towards greater cooperation. I also commend the people and institutions of India for their resilience and commitment to democracy, as the world’s largest democratic exercise draws to a close.”

Modi’s Reply: “Thank you for warm wishes @abdulla_shahid. We share your desire to see our relationship with Maldives achieving new heights.”

Sri Lanka:

President Ranil Wickremesinghe and opposition leaders Mahinda Rajapaksa, Sajith Premadasa, and Sarath Fonseka also extended their congratulations, with Modi individually responding to each.

Mauritius:

Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth posted on X: “Congratulations Prime Minister Modi Ji on your laudable victory for a historic third term. Under your helm, the largest democracy will continue to achieve remarkable progress. Long live the Mauritius-India special relationship.”

Nepal:

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal tweeted: “Congratulations to PM Narendra Modi on the electoral success of BJP and NDA in the Lok Sabha elections for the third consecutive term. We are happy to note the successful completion of the world’s largest democratic exercise with enthusiastic participation of the people of India.”

Bhutan:

Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay said: “Congratulations to my friend PM Narendra Modi-ji and NDA for the historic 3rd consecutive win in the world’s biggest elections. As he continues to lead Bharat to great heights, I look forward to working closely with him to further strengthen the relations between our two countries.”

Global Congratulations and Continued Partnership

Italy:

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni tweeted her congratulations.

Modi’s Reply: “Thank you for your kind wishes PM @GiorgiaMeloni. We remain committed to deepening India-Italy strategic partnership which is underpinned by shared values and interests. Looking forward to working together for global good.”

Jamaica:

Prime Minister Andrew Holness sent his congratulations.

Modi’s Reply: “Thank you Prime Minister @AndrewHolnessJM, India-Jamaica relations are marked by centuries-old people-to-people ties. I look forward to working together with you for the welfare of our people.”

Barbados:

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley congratulated Modi.

Modi’s Reply: “Thank you Prime Minister @miaamormottley. I look forward to working with you for a strong partnership between India and Barbados for the welfare of our people.”

The global outpouring of congratulations highlights the international community’s interest and recognition of India’s democratic process and the strategic importance of the country.
