“The bigger achievement for the Election Commission is undoubtedly the record turnout of about 60% voters in Jammu & Kashmir after decades of boycott.”

The world largest election exercise has almost concluded with the declaration of results across the country. The conduct of the elections for 62.4 Crore Voters with complete transparency is undoubtedly a landmark achievement. for the Election Commission Of India. Barring stray incidents of violence in West Bengal in the 7th phase of election where repolling was held only the next days the polls went off incident free. The participation of more than 60% voters speaks volumes about the faith people of the country have in the electoral system of the country. Though people of almost all shades and opinions voiced their concern over the reports of low turnout in very few parts of the country but Election Commission has very rightly attributed the low turn to ongoing heat wave in some parts of the country. The bigger achievement for the Election Commission is undoubtedly the record turnout of about 60% voters in Jammu & Kashmir after decades of boycott.  The crucial role of the police and paramilitary forces in the peaceful conduct of elections for the world’s largest electorate has been undoubtedly exemplary due to their key in the security of the contestants, transportation of the election material to even remotest of the remote areas of the country and the security at polling station across the country. What made a huge difference in the just concluded Lok Sabha elections was the huge interests of women voters in polling and the credit for this exemplary achievement is attributed to the motivational skills of the Election Commission of India demonstrated by it during voter awareness programs conducted for women for about last six months across the country.

“The confidence both the people and as well as the political parties have shown in the entire election process shows the strength of democracy in the country. Electoral reforms are part of a  continuous reformative election process as scope for increasing the participation of voters and easing the electoral practices and procedures is always there . It is for the Election Commission to keep it commitment on electoral reforms for furtherance of the causes of the strength of electoral system and the whole election process.”

The participation of women and youth particularly the first time voters has unprecedentedly boosted the morale of the Election Commission of the country. Improvements in the electoral system are a continued process and have given unprecedented strength to the whole election process in recent years. Notably with the advancement of the digital technology the Election Commission has eased the practices and procedures of electioneering through a process of digital interventions in recent years and the measures taken so far have boosted both the transparency of the electoral system and as well as the integrity of the election process. The confidence both the people and as well as the political parties have shown in the entire election process shows the strength of democracy in the country. Electoral reforms are part of a continuous reformative election process as scope for increasing the participation of voters and easing the electoral practices and procedures is always there . It is for the Election Commission to keep it commitment on electoral reforms for furtherance of the causes of the strength of electoral system and the whole election process.
