Srinagar: In a historic milestone for adventure tourism in Kashmir, the rugged expanse of the Wasturwan Mountain Range played host to the inaugural paragliding expedition, spearheaded by Nahida Manzoor, an intrepid mountaineer hailing from Zewan area of Srinagar. Embarking on this pioneering endeavor, Nahida, whose illustrious mountaineering feats have graced several towering peaks, ventured into the realm of airborne exhilaration.

Nestled amidst the breathtaking vistas of the Wasturwan Mountain Range, the picturesque Barsoo area of Awantipora bore witness to a spectacle unlike any other as the azure skies welcomed the fluttering canopy of paragliders. Nahida Manzoor, adorned with a spirit of adventure and an unwavering determination, orchestrated the historic trial, marking a significant stride in the region’s burgeoning adventure tourism landscape.

Hailing from the picturesque Zewan area of Srinagar, Nahida Manzoor’s journey to the summit of adventure began with her conquest of towering peaks. With a repertoire of successful mountain ascents under her belt, Nahida’s transition to paragliding exemplifies her relentless pursuit of pushing boundaries and exploring new frontiers.

In an exclusive interview with Kashmir Horizon, Nahida Manzoor shed light on the strategic choice of Barsoo, an offbeat gem recently etched onto the tourism map. With paragliding previously limited to Doodhpathri & Astaan Marg areas, Barsoo’s pristine allure presented an untapped canvas for adventure enthusiasts. Expressing optimism, Nahida emphasized the potential of paragliding to invigorate tourism in the region, urging governmental support in macadamizing the road leading towards the launch spot.

The paragliding pilots unanimously acclaim the spot as attractive, safe, and secure. Ajay Thakur, one of the proficient paragliding pilots, lauded Barsoo’s suitability for the sport, citing its safety and comfort for both takeoff and landing.

Another Paragliding Pilot, Sudhir told media that “Spot is very good for paragliding.” He however urged attention in getting the road leading towards the spot, macadamized.
