Ganderbal: The Government Degree College Ganderbal on Wednesday organised Annual College Road Race-2024 to promote fitness, sportsmanship, and community engagement among the participants.
The event was flagged-off by the college principal, Prof Fouzia Fatima covering a scenic route showcasing the natural beauty.
The annual College Road Race for boys and girls, 2024 was organised by the department of physical education and sports of the college, and witnessed fierce competition, with several participants displaying their athleticism and determination throughout the course.
About 91 students participated in the road race. The race for boys commenced from Power Grid Station Badampora, Ganderbal and for girls at Baroosa Crossing, Ganderbal and culminated at Manasbal Park.
Jameel Ahmad of 6th semester student took the lead by sprinting ahead of the rest of competitors and finished first position with a comfortable lead followed by Shakir Ahmad Dar of 4h semester who finished at 2nd position while AbidMushtaq Rather of 4h semester finished at third position.
In Girls category KhushbooMushtaq of 4th semester secured first position followed by Afnan of 2nd semester who secured second position while Naysun of 4th semester got third position.
Addressing the attendees during the felicitation ceremony, the principal expressed gratitude to the collaborating agencies for their support in organizing the event. She commended the dedication of the college staff who worked tirelessly in the early hours and encouraged students to actively participate in co-curricular activities.
The principal also extended her appreciation to the students for their efforts and achievements.
Valedictory cum prize distribution ceremony was held at Manasbal Park in which the Principal of the college felicitated the position holders of Annual College Road Race for Boys & Girls- 2024 by giving them trophies, medals and certificates.
The ceremony was attended by convener sports committee, Prof Fayaz Ahmad Ahanger, members of Sports Committee and senior faculty members, A.P.T.I Deedar Singh.
