Srinagar :Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested 5 drug peddlers in Budgam, Sopore and Baramulla and also recovered contraband/ Psychotropic substances from their possession.
Ina statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Budgam, Police Post Humhama received an input from OC drop gate 35 BN CRPF stationed at Airport Srinagar that they intercepted a suspicious vehicle (InnovaCrysta) bearing registration number JK02CJ-2343 driven by Raj Singh S/o Gopi Chand R/o Aghar Jito Pungath Udhampur. Stating that during search, Poppy Straw like substance weighing about 2.96 Kgs was recovered from the vehicle, Police in its statement further said that the accused was arrested and the vehicle used in commission of crime was also seized on the spot, adding therein that a case FIR No. 189/2024 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Budgam besides initiating investigation .
Police in its statement further said that in a similar action in Sopore, a police party headed by Incharge Police Post Putkha under the supervision of SDPO Sopore Sarfaraz Bashir at a checkpoint established at Check Hygam Crossing, apprehended a susect Aijaz Ahmad Lone S/o Ghulam Mohammad Lone R/o Krankshivan Sopore and during search recovered 144 capsules of banned drug received from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.
Stating that in Baramulla also a police party of Police Station Baramulla headed by SHO Police Station Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Kanispora-Singhpora Crossing, intercepted three suspects identified as Aqib Salam BhatS/o Abdul Salam, Yasir Ahmad BhatS/o Fayaz Ahmad both R/o Sherwani Colony Khawajabagh and Simranjeet Singh S/o Late Parminder Singh R/o Singhpora Kalan Baramulla, Police in its statement further said that during search, 30 grams of contraband Brown sugar like substances was recovered from the possession of the said accused who were arrested and shifted to Police station Baramulla where they remain in custody. Police in its statement further more said that cases under relevant sections of law were at respective Police Stations besides initiating further investigations. In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but also warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
