2-drug peddlers arrested in B’gam; Contraband substance recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Budgam district and also recovered contraband substance from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Sriangar Police said that a Police party of Police Post Soibugh established a checkpoint at Kashka Mohalla Soibugh and noticed movement of two suspects identified as Mohd Shafi Malik S/o Khazir Malik and Zeba Bano W/o Ab Gani Mir, both residents of Kashka Mohalla Soibugh carrying nylon bags. Stating that on seeing the Police party, the said suspects tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully, Police in its statement further said that During search 27.100 Kgs of Poppy Straw were recovered from the possession of the said accused who were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Police in its statement furthermore said that a case under FIR No. 187/2024 under relevant sections was registered at Police Station Budgam besides inituating further investigation. In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police appealed people to come forward having any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood, reiterating therein its commitment to take all possible measures to curb the menace of drug from the society.
