Jammu: Police on Sunday foiled a narcotics smuggling bid by recovering over 300-kg ‘poppy straw’ from the possession of two interstate narcotics smugglers at Jakhani along Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Udhampur district.
The police spokesman said that during routine naka checking, a mini truck with Punjab registration number was intercepted, which was on its way from Srinagar towards Udhampur.
During the search of the vehicle, he said that 320-kg of poppy straw was recovered and both the persons were arrested and the vehicle was seized.
The arrested persons were identified as Dinesh Kumar and Rajinder Sharma, both residents of Giraward, Haryana.
A case has been registered and investigation started.
