New Delhi: A Leh-bound SpiceJet flight from Delhi on Sunday returned soon after take-off after one of its engines was hit by a bird.
Passengers on the flight SG-123 were deplaned safely at the capital’s IGI airport.
“On May 26, 2024, SpiceJet B737 aircraft operating SG-123 from Delhi to Leh returned back to Delhi after suffering a bird hit on engine 2,” an airline spokesperson said.
The airline executive added that the aircraft landed back safely in Delhi and passengers were deplaned normally.
“The aircraft made a normal landing and not an emergency landing,” the spokesperson noted.
Bird hits are one of the reasons of flight delays even though airports take various measures to contain such incidents.
Since flights follow a tight schedule operating on multiple sectors, a delay in one leg has a cascading effect.
