Police launches drive against illegal cultivation of poppy in Pulwama, B’gam

Srinagar: Police on Thursday said that it has launched a special drive against illegal cultivation of poppy alongwith the teams of revenue & excise officials in Pulwama & Budgam districts.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that the intensive drive against poppy cultivation, carried out by the joint teams led to the destruction of poppy cultivation spread over a vast area of land at two different places, Arihal and Tahab, in Pulwama and Gariend Kalan area in Budgam.
Stating that the police has accordingly registered a case FIR No 174/2024 under relevant section of law at Police Station Budgam and in Pulwama a case vide FIR Nos 94/2024 & 95/2024 has also been registered under relevant section of law at Police Station Pulwama against 15 accused persons identified as Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh S/o Assadullah Sheikh, Ali Mohd Sheikh S/o Gh Mohd Sheikh, Zahoor Ah Dar S/o Gh Mohidin, Gh Mohidin Ganie S/o Qadoos, Fayaz Ah Sheikh S/o Gh Qadir Sheikh, Gh Mohd Sheikh S/o Wali Mohd Sheikh, Bilal Ah Ganie S/o Sulla Ganie, Yaseen Ah Ganie S/o Sulla Ganie, all residents of Tahab Pulwama and Nazir Ah Bhat S/o Mohd Shaban Bhat, Mohd Abdullah Parry S/o Gh Mohd Parry, Nazir Ah Ganie S/o Gh Mohd Ganie S/o Mushtaq Ah Ganie S/o Gh Mohd Ganie, Zahoor Ah Raina S/o Mohd Maqbool Raina, Manzoor Ah Raina S/o Ab Kabir Raina and Ab Hameed Dar S/o Gh Mohd Dar, all residents of Arihal Pulwama. Further investigation has been set into motion.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police said that people of the area have appreciated its action and urged it to continue this drive in nearby areas as well. Police also appealed people to extend their cooperation in this drive against drug abuse.
