Srinagar, 22 May: A day after news surfaced on social media regarding Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and his brother-in-law being booked in a land allotment case related to his residence, Mirwaiz Manzil Nigeen has refuted these reports.

According to a statement issued by Mirwaiz Manzil Nigeen, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has not received any intimation or notice regarding the matter from the concerned authorities. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who has been under house detention since May 3rd, clarified that a news item circulating in the media claims that the ACB Srinagar has filed an FIR against him and his kin regarding the land allotment case of his residence in Nigeen.

The statement argues that this is an attempt to malign and harass him, asserting that no information or notice has been provided to him about the case.

The statement further notes that this is part of a continued media campaign against Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, referencing similar false accusations made in 2018 regarding multiple properties attributed to him. It clarifies that the residential land and house in Nigeen, where Mirwaiz currently lives, were purchased and built by his father, Shaheed-e-Millat Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq, in 1973.

Mirwaiz Manzil also pointed out that if there were any issues, the authorities should have followed proper procedures by informing Mirwaiz Umar Farooq instead of “instantly booking” him. The statement emphasizes the integrity of Mirwaiz and his implicated kin, asserting that they have not and will not engage in any immoral or illegal activities, reads the statement.

It is important to mention that on May 21, a news item surfaced that seven persons including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq were booked regarding custodian land and corrupt charges.
