Govt Polytechnic Jammu organizes technical visit for students to Electrical Central Workshop Narwal

Jammu :: Government Polytechnic College Jammu, under the guidance of the Principal Er. Arun Bangotra and HoD Electrical Engineering Department Er. Manjeet Singh, organized a Technical Visit for the students of 4th Semester Electrical Engineering Department to Electrical Central Workshop Division Narwal. The Technical visit served as a valuable opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of real world applications within their field of Study. The event underscored the importance of such initiatives in fostering academic growth and Practical knowledge among aspiring engineers.
A group of Technical Experts consisting of Er. Bhanu Partap Singh Jamwal Technical officer, Er. Punica A.E, Er. Sanjeev Dutta J.E and Er. Pratiksha J.E briefed the students regarding Repair/Reclamation of Distribution Transformers with Capacity ranging from 25 KVA to 630KVA. The Students were taken around the workshop premises and imparted know how about the various works being carried out like Opening of transformers, Rewinding of Transformers with the use of Winding Machines (HT winding and LT winding and reconditioning of LT winding), Assembling of Transformer, Heat Treatment in three Ovens for obtaining the desired Megger value of the assembled transformer, designing the transformer for Star and delta connections, filtration of oil by using Oil filtration plant, sampling of filtered oil to obtain desired BDV of oil and finally filling the transformer body with transformer oil followed by closing of repaired transformers.
The students were further updated about testing of repaired transformers in the Testing lab, including HV Test and LV Test, Meggar Test , Core losses test, Copper losses test and open circuit, Short Circuit test, Double voltage double frequency test and turns ratio test.
In addition to this, Technical Experts apprised the students regarding the History of Electrical Central Workshop Division, which was set up in the year 1986 over a large area. The team informed that approximately 600 to 650 Repaired Transformers are kept ready to meet the demand. The Transformer Testing Laboratory in the Central Transformer workshop is one of the unique Testing labs in the Province, they said.
Er. Devika Bhardwaj and Er Vicky Sharma faculty Electrical Engineering Department were also present along with Students during the Technical Visit.
