Srinagar : Police in Ganderbal on Tuesday said that it seized illicit timber alongwith a vehicle in Kangan area and arrested the driver of the vehicle.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that while acting on specific input about timber smuggling, a police party of Police Station Kangan headed by SHO Kangan Inspector Mehboob Banday established a checkpoint at Gujjar Pati Prang and during checking, intercepted a Santro car bearing registration No. DL3CAT-1731 driven by Tariq Ahmad Bhat S/o Gh Hassan Bhat R/o Najwan Kangan loaded with illicit Timber (Kairu).
Police in its statement further said that during preliminary questioning, police came to know about the loading of timber in the vehicle that was illegally acquired from the nearby forest, adding therein that the accused driver was arrested and the vehicle alongwith illicit timber (Kairu) too was seized.
Stating that police registered a case under FIR No. 38/2024, under relevant sections of law at Police Station Kangan besides initiating further investigation , Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement police reiterated its commitment to keep society free from crime and also resolved to act as per law against smugglers indulging in such activities in future also.
