Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested five drug peddlers in Kulgam and Baramulla districts and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Kulgam, a police party of Police Station Qaimoh at a checkpoint established at Khudwani Bypass near Jammu-Srinagar highway intercepted two suspects identified as Manzoor Ahmad Wagay son in law of Gull Mohd Dar & Mushtaq Ahmad Bagow S/o Wali Mohd Bagow, both residents of Redwani Payeen while carrying a nylon bag and during search recovered 3 kgs of poppy straw concealed in the nylon bag and 3 grams of brown sugar like substanc from their possession.
Police in its statement further said that yet in another similar incident a police party of Police Post Mirbazar intercepted a vehicle (XUV-500) bearing registration No DL4CNB-7870 at a checkpoint established at Manigam crossing and during search recovered 220 grams of charas like substance and cash amount of Rs 15,000/- (believed to be proceeds of narcotic crime) from the possession of Rayees Ahmad Turray S/o Mohd Yousuf Turray R/o Khawa Mir Ali Chani Chowk Anantnag, adding therein that the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Police in its statement further said that in a similar action in Baramulla, a police party of Police Station Boniyar headed by SHO Police Station Boniyar intercepted two suspects identified as Abdul Qayoom Ganie and Gh Hassan Ganie, sons of Gh Rasool, both residents of Trikanjan Boniyar at a checkpoint established at Ganie Mohalla Trikanjan and during search recovered 446 grams of Heroin like substance (worth Rs 2 crores approximately) from their possession of the said accused.
Stating that all drug peddlers were arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody, Police in its statement further said that cases under relevant sections of law were registered besides initiating further investigations. In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood and also warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
