Srinagar: Below is the timeline of the key public events held this week in Jammu & Kashmir:-
On May 07: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a review meeting of the Science and Technology Department. The meeting was attended by Sh. Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Sh. Santosh D Vaidya, Principal Secretary, Finance Department; Dr. Mandeep Kumar Bhandari.
On May 07: Dr. Javid Ahmad Wani, Director, National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Srinagar called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan. He briefed LG about the functioning of NIFT campus at Ompora in Budgam District.
On May 08: Army chief Gen Manoj Pande today visited Leh-based 14 Corps headquarters and reviewed prevailing security situation in Eastern Ladakh along Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China and Siachen Glacier, the highest battlefield in the world. The Army chief was given a detailed briefing on the situation by Lt Gen Rashim Bali, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 14 Corps also known as Fire and Fury Corps.
On May 10, Gusty winds accompanied by rainfall wreaked havoc in northern Kashmir on Friday, damaging over 14 residential rooftops. The meteorological department has forecasted further rains, thunder, and lightning in the region towards late Sunday afternoon. As predicted by the MeT department, gusty winds ranging from 35 to 45 kmph caused substantial damage in central and north Kashmir districts, including Srinagar, Budgam, Baramulla, and Bandipora. The winds uprooted trees and blocked highways at multiple locations in Baramulla, though fortunately, no injuries were reported.
On May 10: Divisional Commissioner (Div Com), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Biduri along with IGP Kashmir, V K Birdi Thursday flagged off the first batch of 642 Hajj pilgrims of Jammu Kashmir from Srinagar International Airport to Saudi Arabia to perform the annual Hajj 2024 pilgrimage.
On May 11: Inspector General of Kashmir V K Bhirdi said that elaborate security arrangements for Kashmir polls as inter-district check-points and area domination has been taken care off. “Whatever mandatory security arrangements were needed, they have been taken care off,” he said.
