Srinagar: Police on Wednesday said that it has seized 17 vehicles and arrested 17 drivers in Kulgam.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that while acting swiftly on the specific inputs generated from credible sources regarding transportation of illegal mining minerals in the jurisdiction of Police Post Mirbazar multiple teams headed by IC Police Post Mirbazar along with DMO Kulgam were constituted and subsequently, multiple checkpoints at Mirbazar Chowk, Akhran and Manigam were established.
Stating that during checking, 17 vehicles including 16 tractors and a dumpe involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals were seized, Police in its statement further said that the said drivers were apprehended and shifted to police post Mirbazar where they remain in police custody, adding therein that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Qazigund besides initiating investigation into the case.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police appealed people not to indulge in any kind of illegal mining activities from any Nallah/river as it is the violation of Government rules, reiterating therein that people found indulging in illegal mining activities shall be dealt as per law.
