Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Baramulla and also recovered contraband substance from his possession. Besides, booked a notorious drug smuggler under PIT NDPS Act.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police party of Police Post Wussan headed by I/C Police Post Wussan at a checkpoint established at New Colony Wussan, intercepted a suspect Lateef Ahmad Mir S/o Gh Mohiuddin R/o Waripora Tapper and during search recovered 32 grams of Charas, 1 gold ring & cash amount of Rs. 250 from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and shifted to Police Statopm Pattan where he remains in custody.
Stating that a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Pattan besides initiating investigation into the case, Police in its statement also said that a notorious drug smuggler identified Bilal Ahmad Sheikh S/o Late Ghulam Hassan R/o Zehanpora Boniyar under PIT NDPS Act in Baramulla has been booked by it after obtaining formal detention order from competent authority, adding therein that the said booked drug smuggler has been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jammu.
Police in its statement furthermore said that many cases were registered against the said drug smuggler for being involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth of Uri, Kamalkote, Boniyar and other areas of District, Stating therein further that despite involvement in many FIRs that the said drug smugglere did not mend hi activities and was again involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, reiterating therein its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
