Unadvisable Change In School Timings In Srinagar

A decision taken only for Srinagar schools in isolation would for all practical purposes disturb the educational activities of children and professional activities of their parents outside the municipal limits of Srinagar across Kashmir.

Government announcing change in timings for only Srinagar schools and not the schools anywhere outside the municipal limits is a decision which obviously goes against the spirits of equality and the educational conveniences of school children. True it is that change in weather necessitates change in school timings but Government fixing one time for Srinagar schools and a different timing for all schools in rest of the Kashmir Valley would obviously disturb the educational activities of school children outside the municipal limits of Srinagar city. Changing school timings only in Srinagar obviously for hassle free travel of employees to top Government offices in the summer capital for facilitating their physical attendance in time would surely lead to smooth functioning of the Government offices in Srinagar but such a decision taken only for Srinagar schools in isolation would for all practical purposes disturb the educational activities of children and professional activities of their parents outside the municipal limits of Srinagar across Kashmir.  The change in school timings within the municipal limits of Srinagar city announced by Director School Education Kashmir  could be a compulsion for either educational or administrative reasons for the Government but it is also equally an unavoidable compulsion for both the students and as well as their parents outside the municipal limits of Srinagar city across Kashmir. Unfortunately under this arrangement of school timings the parents posted outside the municipal limits of Srinagar are forced to leave their homes early in the morning and return late in the evening due to which they fail to attend their children at the time of departing for schools in the morning and on return in the evening.

“In fact the Government would send a message of goodwill to the people if it also announces suitable changes in the timings of schools outside municipal limits of Srinagar city as well. In fact uniform school timing for urban and rural schools won’t obviously leave any psychological impact on the minds of the students either in urban or rural parts of Kashmir Valley. Administrative wisdom demands that Government enforces uniform school timings in larger interests of  both physical and as well as mental conveniences of both the school children and as well as their parents equally in rural and urban parts of Kashmir Valley . “

Disengagement of children with their parents at the time of departing for schools in their morning and on their return due to unadvisable change in school timings for Srinagar schools is in one or the other way an insult to the institution of child rights and as such deserves immediate attention and intervention of the top helmsmen of the School Education Department. For all practical purposes it won’t be a matter of convenience for the people if the Government simultaneously enforces some suitable changes in the timings of schools outside the Srinagar municipal limits as well.
