Srinagar: Police on Thursday said that Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) has arrested one hard-core/radicalised individual identified as Waseem Ahmed Shaikh R/o Beerwah District Budgam, who was about to join militant ranks on the motivation of some Pakistani based militant handlers.
In a statement issued from PHQ Srinagar Police said that an input was on 29th April this year received from reliable sources about the attempts of a militant outfit Ansar Gazwat-Ul-Hind to re-establish its base and revive its cadres in Kashmir. Police in its statement further said that in furtherance to this conspiracy, a Pakistan based militant handler of AuGH identified as Hamzah alias Gazi was reported to be brainwashing Kashmiri youth to join militant ranks, adding that “It was further learnt that AuGH has brainwashed and cultivated few committed hybrid OGWs in Kashmir and these OGWs in connivance are planning a militant recruitment drive in the Valley”.
Stating that the input was further developed technically and one individual namely Waseem Ahmad Sheikh of Beerwah was identified on ground and was accordingly detained for questioning, Police in its statement further said “ during preliminary investigation it was revealed that he was in constant touch with the handlers through virtual mode and was about to join militant outfit by forming a new group.”
Police in its statement furthermore said that the said youth Waseem Ahmad Sheikh had been asked to identify a group of youth willing to join militancy with AuGH militant outfit as it was further revealed that the Pak based militant commander had assured him of supplying arms and ammunitions for him and his group in coming days.”
In the concluding of its statement Police said “ investigation further revealed that the said youth was a part of many WhatsApp and Telegram groups associated with militant outfits, adding therein that “Further investigation is on to identify other members of such groups to take legal actions against them.”
