Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Budgam and Kulgam districts and also recovered contraband substances and cash from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Budgam, a police party of Police Station Budgam at a checkpoint established at Choon crossing, intercepted a Motorcycle bearing registration number JK04H -8764 ridden by two suspects Bilal Ahmed Wani S/o Mohammad Sultan Wani and Showket Ahmad Wani S/o Ghulam Hassan Wani, both residents of Thokerpora and during search, poppy straw like substance weighing about 8kg 100 grams, 36 grams charas, 3 mobile phones and cash amount of Rupees 1000 (believed to be proceeds of narcotics) were recovered from their possession. Police in its statement further said that the accused have been arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Stating that in a similar action in Kulgam, a police party of Police Station Yaripora during patrolling near Behibrada, intercepted a suspect Sareer Ahmad Itoo S/o Abdul Rashid Itoo R/o Sonigam who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, Police in its statement further said that during search, 5.5 Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance concealed in a nylon bag was recovered from the possession of the said accused who was shifted to Police Stations where he remains in custody.
Police in its statement furthermore said that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective Police Stations besides initiating further investigation.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society.
