Deferment of Ang-Rajouri elections aimed to disenfranchise nomadic tribes: Omar Abdullah

Srinagar : National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Wednesday accused the BJP of delaying the BJP of deferring polls in Anantnag-Rajouri due to a fear of defeat.
Addressing a workers meet in Anantnag, Omar said” BJP has realised that they will be wiped out in Jammu and the parties and system which they tried to put up in Kashmir are not working as people are not ready to accept them, so they are deferring the election. The decision of ECI taken yesterday was a glaring example of conspiracy. The commission was silent when incessant rains lashed J&K when favorable weather conditions restored they rescheduled the polling. This was aimed to deprive the nomadic community of Pir Panchal region from the right to vote.”
He said the decision was taken on the pleas of those who are not contesting polls there. “NC wrote to ECI that those who are seeking to postpone the elections are not even in the field. But our plea was not heard seriously, because the rescheduling of polls was aimed to deprive nomads people from exercising their right to vote, but we are hopeful those hatched conspiracies at this juncture will be dusted on polling day,” he said.
He alleged that BJP believes in divide and rule policy like the British was playing but NC and its cadre won’t give up and will continue to defeat them and represent the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
On the occasion, he welcomed noted political activist and former PDP Youth leader from Dialgam Imran Ahmad Shah along with his supporters into the party fold. He extended warm wishes to the new entrants hoping that the party will benefit from his experience in public life & social service. Later in the day, he addressed a workers convention organized by AICC General secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir at Nadrora Dooru.
