4 drug peddlers arrested in Kulgam & Shopian, Contraband substances also recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has arrested four drug peddlers in Kulgam and Shopian and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar police said that in Kulgam, a police party of Police Station Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Bonigam, intercepted a suspect identified as Showkat Ahmad Dar S/o Sonauallah Dar R/o Bonigam carrying a bag who on noticing police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, adding therein that during search, 3.1 Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance filled in the said bag was recovered from the possession of the said accused who was shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.
Stating that a police party of Police Station Devsar during patrolling at Sopat Maldar link road near ziyarat Sharief, intercepted two suspects identified as Muneeb Ahmad Ganie S/o Mohd Yaqoob Ganie and Akash Lateef Ganie s/o Mohd Lateef Ganie both residents of Nussu Badragund who on noticing police party tried to flee from the spot but where apprehended tactfully, Police in its statement further said that during search of the said accused 80 grams of Charas like contraband substance was recovered from their possession following which they were shifted to Police Station where they remain in police custody.
Police in its statement furthermore said that in Shopian also, a police party of Police Station Imamsahib under the supervision of SSP Shopian at a checkpoint established at Chotipora crossing intercepted a suspect Gh. Mohd Thoker S/o Ab. Khaliq Thoker R/o Barbugh Imamsahib who on seeing the police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, adding therein that during search of the said accused 1Kg 400grams of contraband Poppy straw like substance was recovered from his possession following which he was shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.
Stating that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations besides initiating investigations into the cases, Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
