Srinagar: Below is the timeline of weeklong public events held in Jammu & Kashmir:-


1. The second phase of voting for the 18th Lok Sabha Elections concluded peacefully in Jammu Parliamentary Constituency. The district of Jammu, along with Samba, Reasi, and a part of Rajouri, witnessed a remarkable tentative voter turnout of 71.91%. This high participation reflects voters’ unwavering commitment and deep faith in the democratic system, contributing to a flourishing society.

2. Twelve days after the boat capsized in Srinagar, another minor boy’s body was retrieved from the river Jhelum on Saturday, taking the death toll in the incident to nine. The body of a missing boy was retrieved near Noorbagh Srinagar this morning.

3. As the annual AmarnathYatra approaches, the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir (DHSK) is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the well-being of pilgrims. Dr.Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, Director Health Services Kashmir, revealed that comprehensive preparations are underway to provide optimum healthcare services to the yatris, with the yatra set to commence on June 29.

4. The Jammu and Kashmir State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has officially declared the results of the Middle Standard Examination for the academic year 2023-24. A commendable pass percentage of 95.91% has been achieved by candidates from both soft and hard zones across the Jammu and Kashmir Divisions.

5. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed a conference on the ‘Role of Citizens in Holistic Development’ held at Rainbow Modern School, Ghazipur. In his speech, the Lt Governor underscored the invaluable contribution of citizen participation in the nation’s progress.

6. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) youth president Waheed Rehman Parra and Apni Party candidate Mohammad Ashraf Mir filed nomination papers from the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency which is going to polls in the fourth phase of elections on May 13. So far, 17 candidates have filed nominations from the constituency.
7. The Additional Director General of Police, Anand Jain undertook a visit to Rajouri to oversee and reinforce security measures in Rajouri, where terrorists shot dead a civilian in Kunda village of the district.

8. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Siachen, the world’s highest battlefield, to assess security and honour the courageous soldiers stationed there. Accompanied by Chief of the Army Staff General Manoj Pande and other key figures, Singh’s presence was a symbol of solidarity with India’s frontline defenders.

9. Lieutenant Governor ManojSinha this week met the family members of the victims who lost their lives in the heartbreaking boat tragedy on April 16. He expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and assured all help and support to them.

10. As the annual pilgrimage to the revered Amarnath Cave approaches, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have initiated extensive preparations to facilitate a safe and smooth journey for pilgrims. The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has been tasked with the crucial responsibility of clearing snow from the Baltal side leading up to the Amarnath Cave, ahead of the Yatra’s commencement on June 29th.

11. In a significant move towards digitization, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has issued a directive mandating the use of digital signatures or Aadhar-based e-signatures in the e-office system, effective from June this year. The directive, applicable to all officers above the rank of dealing officers aims to foster a digital work environment, reduce reliance on physical documents, bolster cybersecurity, and prevent unauthorized access to government files.
