Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has booked four drug peddlers under PIT NDPS Act in Sopore after obtaining formal detention orders from competent authority.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar, Police said that four drug peddlers identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Khan S/o Abdul Rashid Khan R/o Model Town C Sopore, Waseem Ahmad Hajam S/o Mohammad Akbar Hajam R/o Dooru Peer Mohalla, Shahbaz Ahmad Dangroo S/o Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Dangroo R/o Machipora Bomai Sopore and Sharafatullah Shah S/o Muzaffar Ahmad Shah R/o Shalpora Sopore A/P Shalimar Colony Sopore have been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority, adding therein that the said booked drug peddlers have been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jammu.
Police in its statement further said that many cases were registered against these drug smugglers and were still involved in drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to the local youth of the Police District Sopore and other areas of the district, adding therein that despite the involvement of the said accused in many FIRs, they did not mend their activities and were again involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police said that people of the area have appreciated the role played by the Police in taking action against drug peddlers/smugglers. Police in its statement also reiterated its commitment to take strict actions against such criminals as per the law.
