Drug peddler arrested in Shopian, Contraband substance also recovered: Police

Srinagar: Police on Friday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Shopian and also recovered contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party of Police Station Imamsahib under the supervision of SSP Shopian Tanushree at a checkpoint established at Hillow crossing, intercepted a suspect Javaid Ahmad BhatS/o Ghulam Mohammad Bhat R/o Arwani Bijbehara who on seeing the police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully and later during search, 265 grams of contraband Brown sugar like substance was recovered from the possession of the said accused who was shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.
Stating that a case under FIR No. 19/2024 under sections of law was registered Police Station Imamsahib besides initiating further investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
