Ghandinagar (Gujrat)|: Union home minister Amit Shah on Thursday said India has faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led NDA will win with a massive majority in the Lok Sabha elections, which begin with the first phase on Friday (April 19). Slamming the “cowardice” of the Congress, he said the opposition has no chance in front of the prime minister.
Shah said the NDA has held majority for 10 years now and has used it well to consolidate support. “We’ve had majority for 10 years. We have used it well — for the abrogation of Article 370, abolition of triple talaq and implementation of the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act),” he said during a mega roadshow in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar.
He added: “The BJP focused on growth and it will win with majority as the nation has complete faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi.” Shah, who is the BJP candidate from the state capital, will be filing his nomination on Friday (April 19).
There was a massive show of strength by the BJP in the Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad roadshows. “We will win with majority, the people of Gujarat will put all 26 seats in the state in the PM’s kitty. Citizens have unbreakable trust in Modi ji, and have showered him with love and blessings,” Shah told CNN-News18.
Gandhinagar has remained a BJP bastion, all the way from LK Advani to Amit Shah. The union minister, who is targeting more than 10 lakh votes, expressed confidence that he will win by a big margin. Slamming Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, he said those who cannot hold their own seats should not comment about others.
On the opposition raising the issue of EVM manipulation, he said: “When they form governments [like in Tamil Nadu, Bengal and Telangana], then EVMs are working properly; but, when they lose to Modi ji, they make it an issue. People know their intentions, that they are making excuses; they don’t stand a chance in front of Modi ji.”
Shah was taking part in his third road show of the day on Thursday evening. It went through Sabarmati, Ghatlodia, Naranpura and Vejalpur assembly segments, all part of the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat. The Gandhinagar constituency consists of seven assembly segments — Gandhinagar North, Kalol, Sanand, Ghatlodia, Vejalpur, Naranpura and Sabarmati. The BJP had won all these seats in the last state elections. Shah had won from Gandhinagar by more than five lakh votes in the 2019 general elections. Voting for all 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat will take place in a single phase on May 7.
