4 drug peddlers arrested, Contraband Substances also recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested four drug peddlers in Awantipora and Baramulla districts and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Awantipora, a police party of Police Station Tral at a checkpoint established at Buchoo Tral arrested a drug peddler identified as Yawar Ahmad Wagay S/o Abdul Rashid wagay R/o Saimoh Tral and during search recovered 20 grams of Cannabis like substance was recovered from the possession of the accused who was shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.
Stating that during the investigation of said case, one more suspects identified in backward linkage, namely Mohammad Amin Dar S/o Ab Gaffar Dar R/o Kewi Pora Marhama Sangam was arrested and during search, 90 grams of cannabis like substance was recovered from his possession, Police in its statement further said that a police party headed by Incharge Police Station Reshipora under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora at a checkpoint established at Dutpora Awantipora also arrested a drug peddler identified as Ghulam Mohammad Bhat S/o Gh Qadir Bhat R/o Dogripora and during search recovered 1Kg 140gms of Charas Powder like substance from the possession of the said accused who was shifted to police Station where he remains in custody.
Police in its statement further said that in Baramulla also a police party of Police Station Sherri headed by SHO Police Station Sheeri at a checkpoint established at Sheeri NHW near Eco Park, intercepted a suspect Adil Nazir Sofi S/o Nazir Ahmad R/o Bagna Salamabad A/P PWD Colony Kanthbagh Baramulla and during search recovered 10 grams of contraband Heroin like substances from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.
Stating that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective Police Stations besides initiating further investigations into the cases, Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement appealed people to come forward or Dial 112 with any information regarding drug peddling/anti-social activity in their vicinity and extend their cooperation to Police in eradicating the drug from the society.
