“Price rise a burning public issue taking the centre stage in the ongoing campaigning for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections can’t be contained and controlled without regulation of the prices of essential commodities.”
Though price rise and unemployment have attracted huge public attention in the backdrop of a survey that shows increasing stress of price rise and unemployment on people of lower income groups in India amid campaigning for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections across the country but surprisingly amid heightened vigil on inspection of food products at the grocery stores in Jammu city the regulation of the prices of essential commodities ceases to be in operation for more than a year now in both Kashmir Valley and as well as Jammu division. While the regulation of prices of essential commodities demands and deserves urgent attention of the Government keeping in view the fact that prices once regularly controlled through regular market checking practices increases the purchasing capacity of consumers and henceforth enhances the affordability of consumers, the Food , Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) department has for last more than a year now abandoned the price control regulation practices through regular inspections by market checking squads of its enforcement wing both in Kashmir Valley and as well as Jammu division. While in Jammu the food inspection squads of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) recently inspected some grocery stores to ensure delivery of quality food products to consumers in the winter capital, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has virtually suspended the food inspection practices with no regular inspections at the grocery stores amid suspension of the price control practices by FCS&CA Department both in Kashmir Valley and as well as Jammu division. Ultimately the price rise a burning public issue taking the centre stage in the ongoing campaigning for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections can’t be contained and controlled without regulation of the prices of essential commodities more intensely in landlocked Kashmir Valley due to its vulnerability to traffic disruptions on Jammu-Srinagar highway than other parts of the country.
“Kashmir a region known for frequent disruptions in traffic movements on Jammu-Srinagar highway always keeps on crying over the supply of essential commodities more intensely during chilly winter months than peak summer season in Kashmir Valley and henceforth demands and deserves urgent attention and intervention of the Government over both the regulation of prices of essential commodities and as well as inspection of grocery stores for the purposes of quality food products to consumers.”
The emerging political and economic scenario dominating the national election scene right now necessitates an urgent and immediate attention on price rise and quality control in case of essential commodities more intensely in Jammu & Kashmir than other parts of the country. Kashmir a region known for frequent disruptions in traffic movements on Jammu-Srinagar highway always keeps on crying over the supply of essential commodities more intensely during chilly winter months than peak summer season in Kashmir Valley and henceforth demands and deserves urgent attention and intervention of the Government over both the regulation of prices of essential commodities and as well as inspection of grocery stores for the purposes of quality food products to consumers.
