The spectacle of immoral activities and stunt biking under the guise of celebration has sparked outrage, with many labeling it as a blatant disregard for the sanctity of Eid. Authorities are criticized for failing to curb such behavior and allowing the youth to indulge in activities that not only endanger their lives but also contribute to a rise in social crimes. Law enforcement agencies are facing scrutiny for their perceived inaction in preventing such incidents. It is argued that they have a duty to uphold public safety and should not tolerate any form of misconduct, especially during religious festivities. While the onus of stopping stunt biking on the roads falls on the traffic police, there is a growing consensus that parents must also take responsibility for their children’s actions. The traffic congestion on Boulevard Road, particularly due to people heading to the tulip garden, is understandable. Tulip gardens, especially during Eid ul-Fitr, tend to attract large crowds as families and friends gather to enjoy the beauty of the blooming flowers and celebrate the festive occasion together.
Meanwhile, to ensure smooth vehicular movement to the Tulip Garden, the Traffic Police have issued an advisory. “Asia’s largest Tulip Garden was opened to the public on March 23, 2024, attracting a large number of tourists and locals, especially after Eid-ul-Fitr. Due to the expected rush, congestion is likely.
For the convenience of people and to avoid slow movement, one-way traffic regulations, especially on holidays, will be enforced,” stated SSP Traffic (Srinagar) Muzaffar Ahmad Shah in the advisory.
“Visitors intending to visit the Tulip Garden are advised to take the Lal Chowk-Dalgate-Boulevard/Gupkar Road route to reach the garden and return via the Nishat-Foreshore-Habak-Dargah-Khanyar route to reach their respective destinations,” the advisory continues. “Similarly, motorists traveling from Harwan-Shalimar-Nishat and adjacent areas to Lal Chowk are requested to use the Foreshore-Hazratbal route instead of the Nishat-Boulevard road axis.”
“Motorists from Gulab Bagh-Zakoora-Naseembagh-Habbak and adjacent areas should take the 90 feet road and Ali Jan route to reach Lal Chowk instead of Foreshore Road. Visitors are advised to park their vehicles only at designated parking places and avoid roadside parking. Vehicles parked improperly will be towed,” the advisory further emphasizes.
The advisory specifies available parking places in front of the Botanical Garden, open land at Karpora, and the LCMA Parking at Nishat. “Emergencies will be allowed to take the shortest route. One-way traffic regulations will be in effect from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm,” it concludes.
