Srinagar: In response to recent apprehensions regarding the quality of drinking water supplied by the Doodhganga Water Treatment Plant, Xen Jal Shakti Division, Srinagar on Friday issued a statement reaffirming its commitment to delivering safe and clean water to the residents of Srinagar City.
In a statement issued here, XEN said the Doodhganga Water Treatment Plant follows stringent protocols to provide clean and potable water to the residents of the uptown area of Srinagar City. We emphasize that the treated water from the plant complies with all standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for drinking water, She said. “Our division conducts daily tests on the treated water, which are promptly uploaded to the IMIS Portal for public scrutiny. These tests encompass a wide range of parameters to ensure the water’s safety, including Colour, Odour, Taste, Turbidity, Alkalinity, Acidity, pH levels, Chloride levels, Total Solids, Residual Chlorine, and Coliform Qualitative Test,” She said.
The Xen said that additionallly in-house water testing laboratory rigorously examines the water before it is supplied to consumers, making necessary adjustments for optimal quality. “We also conduct random sampling and testing at consumer points to further guarantee water quality. It is important to note that while our responsibility lies in maintaining the quality of treated water, the discharge into the Nallah is monitored separately by relevant agencies to meet statutory obligations. Any sewage load in the Nallah does not compromise the quality of treated water supplied to consumers,” She said. The Xen Jal Shakti Division, Srinagar, stands firm in our commitment to providing safe and clean drinking water to the residents of Srinagar City. “We urge the public to trust in our processes and refrain from spreading misinformation that may cause unwarranted concern among the populace,” She said.
The Xen said that notion as if raw water from DG Nallah is supplied to the consumers is strongly refuted. The status of health of DG Nallah and water supplied from the treatment contamninated plant water to the consumers are two different and separate issues. ” Had such been supplied to the consumers there would have been cholera outbreaks on daily bases. The Public Health Engineering Department is committed to provide safe drinking water to the consumers through WTPs,” she added.
